The Broken Bow Public Library, located at 626 South D Street, is a vital information resource for Custer County. The library's hours are: Monday - Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 pm Friday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Saturday 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Contact the library by telephone at 308-872-2927 or email at bbpl@kdsi.net ServicesThe library serves the community by providing over 25,000 books for all reading levels, videotapes, and books-on-tape, as well as over 125 magazine titles. Residents within the city limits may obtain a library card at no charge. Non-resident fees are charged annually for those living out of Broken Bow's city limits. Fees are $15 for an individual, $20 for a family, and $25 for a rural school.The library has four public access computers available at no charge. The computers also have Microsoft 2000 office, FrontPage, Outlook, PhotoDraw, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Wireless internet access is available at no charge. Users under the age of 18 need a consent card with the signature of a parent or guardian in order to use the computers. Patrons may access web-based e-mail accounts on the computers. Research databases that are available online are Books in Print, FirstSearch, Wilson Web, and bigchalk eLibrary. A reading area with a fireplace was recently added to the main library, while a reading nook and gazebo were added to the children's library. There is also a meeting room at the library with a television, VCR, and one-way down link satellite for individual or group use. In addition, the office for the Mid-Plains Community College area coordinator is located at the library. Special library services and programs include interlibrary loan, ABE/GED classes, book discussion groups, Humanities programs, story hour for pre-school children, summer reading programs for school-age children, and art exhibits. Food and beverages are allowed throughout the entire building and free coffee is always available.
